Cooking with gas!

The kitchen is taking shape!

It used to be the living area of the 'back flat'. This was taken on the day I moved in, before I had unpacked...

It made such a difference to the space when the wall sheeting and carpet was removed...

Then the VJ walls went in...

Ceiling insulation went in (under the supervision of little 'Foreman Nina'!) The kitchen is located on the north eastern corner of the house so is filled with light and Winter sun. You find yourself gravitating to this room...

The lights have been installed this week...

The windows and 'white salt' paint make it feel lovely and fresh. The roses will soon be shooting and provide a  backdrop outside the window...

Green thumb

It feels so great to spend time in the yard preparing for Spring. The yard here has always had greenery, rich soil and established trees.

I am loving adding to the garden and doing it more and more justice each day. The roses in my previous garden brought so much joy, especially as cut flowers for family and friends. So I have planted a row of standards along the driveway here - a hybrid tea called 'Heaven Scent' which is an orchid pink color and known for its beautiful fragrance. They have already started shooting - Spring is on its way :)

We also found a new home under the jacaranda for a huge pile of agapanthus (courtesy of Nikki and Tony and their renovations - thank you!) Can't wait for their purple flowers to pop up, especially when the jacaranda is also in flower.

The new kitchen is well underway. Next post will be a kitchen one..

It's going to be a great year..

The Flats

I am excited to have embarked on a new project in the past couple of months. I would love to share the journey here with you...

For a long time, 'the Flats' has sat quietly in this lovely neighbourhood, and has provided many happy and lasting memories for those who have called this charming place 'home'.

There's the big old Jacaranda that sits gracefully along the boundary, framing the backyard.. the macadamia nut tree that tempts kids to 'accidentally' hit their ball over the fence so they can fill a bucket full of nuts.. stunning sunrises and sunsets.. and just a strong sense of home and contentment (and of course great neighbours ;) A lovely lady called Lorraine lived in the 'front flat' for many years and I remember how much she enjoyed it. She especially loved the Summer breeze that flows through the front window, which is shaded by that macadamia tree. That was years ago now.

I recently bought into this property with Mum and Dad, and together we are renovating the existing house (which has been operating as a duplex) into one house and home. It's really special to be sharing this project with Mum and Dad, and rewarding to be living here while the reno takes place...

Sunrise..

The Jacaranda will lose its leaves soon ..
