Main bathroom progress
Dad has been continuing on with the new main bathroom. The vanity is in place along the northern wall, with a row of small white square tiles which will serve as a splashback (similar to what is in the new kitchen). A round counter-top basin will sit on top of the vanity, towards the left end. The timber benchtop will be given a clear lacquer coating and the front cupboard doors will most likely be painted white. A large frameless mirror will sit above the vanity, to the left of the window, and the untiled areas of the bathroom will be painted white.
Here is more of the bathroom - the north eastern corner. You can see the lovely wide original floorboards which were revealed when the carpet was taken up. These will remain in place, and will be sanded back and polished.
Here is the south eastern corner of the bathroom - where the new shower with its frameless glass will sit. The recess in the wall will be tiled and used for shower products. The bathroom plumbing will hopefully be done this week.
Next to the bathroom will be a handy study nook - accessible to the main living area of the house, but out of full view for neatness. This is the wall between the study nook and bathroom. As you can see, it can't be sealed until the bathroom pipes are in place.
Dad has decided to install a beautiful old three-light timber window in the wall between the dining room and the study nook - to allow extra light and create a sense of openness. Here it is ready to be installed - the top of the window will align with the top of the doorway to the left.
New living room pendant lights
I recently bought two new glass pendant lights which have now been installed in the front sunroom/living area. As the ceilings are so high, we were able to hang the light cord quite long, to keep things in correct proportion.
You can see one of the lights in place here - with sun streaming through the front western window.
New verandah setting
I recently bought a new set of (all-weather) outdoor wicker dining chairs for the northern verandah. They fit perfectly with the old long narrow trestle table that Dad had in his shed. I'm looking forward to some warmer weather when I can entertain out here - although it is a protected and sunny spot, so have been managing to enjoy it already.
New planter box
I have invested in a new large timber planter box which will sit next to the front door, under the door light. At this stage, I am thinking I will paint it dark charcoal (Dulux 'Domino') to tie in with the front door. The two white timber planter boxes that Dad built will stay on the eastern side of the house.
The new planter will sit to the left of the door, under the light.
