Dad has spent so much time and effort on designing, building and installing the verandah balustrades and they are now all in place - and look beautiful. It's very special to know the design is unique and there is no other verandah like this one! Dad has also installed a different variation on the balustrade on the Eastern verandah end - where the ground level below is much higher and the posts therefore don't need to be as close together.

This is along the northern side of the verandah. A great spot for entertaining at that table. Can't wait to buy some outdoor dining chairs to use at the table very soon.

There seems to always be a great spot somewhere on the verandah at any time of the day! We have certainly been enjoying following the sun during Winter (as does my trusty companion 'Nina'!) Must admit I am really looking forward to the warmer weather (as always!) so we can enjoy dinners and entertaining outside.
A start on the main Bathroom
Dad has now made a start on the main bathroom, which will be located towards the back of the house, in the former bedroom of the back flat. A small part of this former room will be dedicated to a handy study nook and the rest will be the main bathroom, with a window opening out to the northern side.
Here is the bedroom before (excuse the junk, as this was taken during a clean-out in preparation for building).
The bathroom frame has started going up. As with most of the house, there are beautiful old wide floorboards in this room, so they will be sanded back and polished.
Dad has also built a custom vanity which will sit along the northern wall of the bathroom, under the window (with a large mirror to the left of the window). The cupboard doors were repurposed from a bedside table which Dad built many years ago (made up of leftover timber panels from my uncle Alan and Aunty Karen Whyte's kitchen). The bedside table was used for many years (by Mum and Dad, and then me) and was really handy. But it hadn't been used recently, so it's great to have recycled the timber and given it a new life! The cupboard doors will end up being painted either white or white-wash and the timber top will be coated in a clear protective lacquer.
Slight alteration of driveway
We have had part of the driveway cut - where the concrete had extended out to the side where the former front carport was located. This will alow me to fill the space between the driveway and house with a garden bed. We are just waiting for the cut concrete to be removed now and then I will make a start on digging the bed in time to plant just before Spring.
The project is continuing to bring so much satisfaction and joy! Certainly a huge job, but I think we are all loving it.
